Special events

Retirement concert/reception for Brian Owen at Ballinger High School, Thursday, May 17, 7:30

You are cordially invited:
It is with mixed emotions that I send this invitation to you. My father, Brian Owen, is retiring this year from music education in both Missouri and Texas schools. He has taught a total of 30 years with many accolades and achievements to his name. He has also been dealing with the progression of Parkinson’s disease for the past 10 years and unfortunately, the Parkinson’s is causing him to retire before he is truly ready to end his music career. He is currently teaching in Ballinger as my assistant and it will be a very different place without his presence next year.

The band students, their parents, and the Bearcat Band Boosters have commissioned Luke McMillan to create an original work in honor of Brian’s music career. “Spoken Softly with a Gentle Heart,”... will be premiered at the Ballinger HS Band spring concert on Thursday, May 17, 2012, in the Ballinger HS Auditorium at 7:30 pm. I would love to honor his teaching career not only with this piece of music, but also with a multitude of past and present students, colleagues, mentors, friends, and family.

Please join us for music, memories, and a cake and punch reception in honor of this exceptional musician, teacher, and friend: Brian Owen. If you are unable to attend and would like to send greetings or memories, please email or send to the addresses below.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need directions.
